Doing Business with the DLA

The Defense Logistics Agency is responsible for nearly every consumable item used by US military forces worldwide. This includes fuel, medical supplies, aviation requirements, land and maritime weapon systems spare parts, construction equipment and material, and critical troop-support items involving food, clothing, and textiles.

At the agency’s Internet Bid Board System, known as DIBBS, you can search for, view, and submit secure quotes for DLA supply items.

Many items are purchased in relatively small quantities, but are automatically replenished on a regular basis.

If you are a distributor, you can search for the manufacturer’s CAGE code listed in the RFQ.

Most RFQs contain procurement history – how much the agency paid for the item, and the awardee.

Some items have drawings or specifications available to download.

You’ll need to be familiar with agency’s packing and marking requirements.  Many items are shipped to a centralized DLA warehouse before they go on to the end user.  Some will require only standard commercial packaging, but others will need more specialized military packaging.
