Could you be turned away at airport security?

The 2005 REAL ID Act set minimum security standards for state driver’s licenses that are accepted as proof of Identification by federal agencies – these standards include features to prevent tampering, counterfeiting or duplication.

By January 2016, airport security could stop accepting standard licenses from New York, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Oklahoma.

Twenty-four states currently hold waivers granting extensions – Oklahoma’s ends Oct. 15.
